2018-2020 Leaf Architecture Change

I've been trying to communicate with my 2019 Leaf Plus (60kw) using OVMS without success. Does anyone know if the pin layout on the OBD II port changed when they did the model update from 2017 to 2018? If so, that may be the root of my problem.

What OVMS cable are you using

What OVMS cable are you using?

2019 Nissan Leaf.

I have ordered the following:

Open Vehicle Monitoring System
(OVMS) WiFi/4G (SIM & ANT included)
[9747555]

OBD2 Cable (OVMS): Nissan OBD2 Cable
Vehicle to Monitor (OVMS): 2019 Nissan Leaf
Nissan OBD2 OVMS Cable [1779000]

I have the OVMS hardware talking to the server, but the dashboard is blank,

I have attempted to upload multiple different release versions and still aren't able to see any data:

Hardware: OVMS WIFI BLE BT cores=2 rev=ESP32/3; MODEM SIM7600
Firmware: 3.3.001-285-g601f2a70/ota_0/edge (build idf v3.3.4-848-g1ff5e24b1b Feb 19 2022 07:59:04)
Running partition: ota_0
Boot partition: ota_0
Factory image: 3.3.001-33-g58d01654
OTA_O image: 3.3.001-285-g601f2a70
OTA_1 image: 3.3.001

When I do drive I get reports that my car is on a flatbed being stolen.

Did I miss a step in terms of getting this working?

Currently ZE1 is not supported…but it’s a work in progress

Currently ZE1 is not supported…but I and others have been working on making it available.
I have a working firmware I can provide to you in exchange for some feedback and will soon merge this with the master, once I sort out some issues it's causing with ZE0 vechiles. Let me know if you would like it?

I would be very glad to be a beta tester for you.

If you have a branch I would be glad to attempt to build and install it.

Alpha tester?

Is this the fork you are working from?

https://github.com/glynhudson/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3/pull/1/files

If not please let me know what repo I should clone and build from.

I would very much like to be an alpha tester.

Thats the build I started with , but I'be added loads more.....

Hi @kayaka1,

Sorry been a bit busy with my real job, Yes thats were I started from but have added loads more. I haven't quite worked out how to merge my changes with the current master or how to provided changes as a branch. When I get time I'll do that.

here's a link to an already compiled firmware and the two src files if you want to build it yourself. Give me 10 mins to upload the files to that location.

Alpha testing is looking good.

@aidehuazi

The new version that you built seems to work while the car is driving.   When the car is charging or powered off none of the data is updating.

That said the new version is very helpful to me.   This will allow me to see my charge level when I return home.  I can then update my evse to let it know how many kWh to allow it to add as I attempt to only charge to 90%.

Thanks -again!

Can't poll the Can bus when the car is off

You can't poll the Can bus when the car is off and I haven't quite worked out how to get it to work while charging, so for the moment, it'll just grab the data prior to you turning off. SOC would be usefull while charging so I've been meaning to work that out. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi @aidehuazi

Hi @aidehuazi

I was wondering if you have anything in the way of updates or new firmware?

Thanks in advance!

I managed to get it 90%

I managed to get it 90% working using the latest firmware, however it required some wiring modifications.
I added a second OBD2 port behind the glovebox which is wired in the same way as the earlier leafs with primary-can connected to EV-CAN (tapped into the loom on its way to the battery as per Dala's Can-bridge install video) and alternate-can is connected to CAR-CAN which I found on one of the plugs to the BCM.

I also took power and ground wires from the existing OBD2 port.

I put a few more details about the wiring here https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3/issues/323#issuecomment-1188277123

Everything seems to be working as expected except for:
SOC doesnt work unless you change the setting so that is is calculated based on GIDs
Charger and Battery temp dont work
Cabin temp has a value but I dont think it is correct
SOH doesnt work
CAC100 doesnt work
Charge estimate times don't work, they always seem to show the time required for a full charge from 0%
Climate control works only when the vehicle is plugged in or on. When the vehicle is unplugged and off I hear a solenoid click somewhere but nothing else happens.
Wakeup car doesnt seem to do anything (although not sure what it's meant to do)
SOC targets for charging work, however if I set a tolerance for how much the SOC can drop once the target is reached, this has no effect, and the charging will still stop and start every hour or so.

Any updates?

Has anybody made any progress?  I would be glad to be an alpha tester.

Thanks!

Please get the ZE1 leaf supported :-(

It would be great to get a progress update on this???
